About the Project

Gerhild Anderwald is a photographer based in Villach, Carinthia. Her focus spans portrait photography, weddings, landscape photography and reportage. Photography has been her lifelong passion – starting with a Polaroid camera she received for her 12th birthday, and later developing her skills on a manual Olympus OM10 SLR she discovered in her mother's cupboard.

She went on to complete a professional programme at the Höhere Graphische Bundeslehranstalt in Vienna, where she trained in darkroom techniques, colour development, large-format cameras and studio photography – before the digital age, giving her a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the craft. After years in Vienna and time abroad in Australia, she returned to Carinthia and now works as a full-time photographer.

The website presents her portfolio across different disciplines – weddings, family, portraits, fine art prints and Lake Art Cards – and serves as the primary point of contact for new clients.

Technologies

The site is built with WordPress for flexible content management. A custom plugin handles automatic conversion of uploaded images into modern formats (e.g. WebP/AVIF), ensuring fast load times without manual image optimisation.
